At Sunshine’s Friends Cat and Dog Rescue, we believe no pet should ever live on the streets without someone to care for them.
 
Our mission is guided by the 5 R’s:
  • Rescue abandoned community cats and dogs in desperate situations
  • Rehabilitate the sick, injured, and abused
  • Rehome adoptable cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies into permanent homes with suitable guardians
  • Refuge — provide a loving temporary home for those not yet ready for adoption
  • Reduce local shelter intake and the community cat population through TNR (trap-neuter-return), and by ensuring every adoptee is spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped
As a volunteer-based rescue, we work every day to end unnecessary euthanasia and give every animal a second chance at a good life. We believe cats and dogs deserve the best possible conditions—whether that means a loving forever home, temporary foster care, or a safe barn placement for cats who thrive outdoors. Our programs make this possible.
 
Adoption & Matchmaking
We take pride in our very low rate of failed adoptions. We truly know our animals and carefully match them with adopters based on temperament, age, and personality. Our goal is a good fit for the entire household, including any existing pets.
Senior & Special Needs Placement
We are committed to finding the right homes for pets who need extra care due to age or medical conditions. These animals make wonderful companions—they simply may need a quieter home for their golden years or a guardian who can provide daily medication and closer monitoring.
Foster-to-Adopt
Some of our rescues arrive scared and shy. Many have had little close human contact, making it hard to see their true personalities in a shelter environment. With time, love, and patience, they blossom. Our foster-to-adopt animals are placed only with experienced pet parents who can offer that support. We guide you every step of the way as the animal adjusts to their new home and family.
Barn Placement
We work hard to find safe outdoor homes for feral or semi-feral cats who cannot be returned to a dedicated caregiver, as well as for outdoor-preferring cats. Our barn adoptions follow a strict, proven protocol to help them settle successfully into their new environment.
