Re-Homing and Adoptions

Finding homes for cats and kittens as well as dogs
It's Kitten Season

Late April through August most female cats who haven't been spayed will go into heat every seven weeks and when they are fertile, they need to mate and the end result is a boatload of kittens. Sunshine's Friends is committed to ending the cycle of local feral and community cats giving birth to litters of at least two to five kittens from the age of about six months old. So, we participate in TNR programs where the mother cat is captured either while pregnant or with a litter and when the babies are weaned, the mother is either spayed and returned to her colony (if feral) or if she is obviously a stray and still accustomed to people, she is spayed and put up for adoption with her kittens. Sunshine's Friends currently has multiple litters of kittens who are reaching the age of adoption.
Please contact us through our website below or visit one of our Adoption Clinics at the Ellicott City PetSmart shown on our event calendar.

Our success stories have happy endings for Sunshine’s Friends.
One of the most rewarding things we do at the sanctuary is rescue feral moms with their kittens. Some of these kittens were born in abandoned houses, some behind dumpsters, and some in wooded areas. The condition of the kittens mostly depends on the food source for the mom. Many of the moms weigh as little as five pounds and they have between four to six babies to feed. These little families generally have had no positive contact with people. The mother cat may never be socialized or completely comfortable with us, however, she will appreciate having regular meals and a safe place to nurse her babies. The feral moms, no matter how cautious and scared of humans they are, learn to trust the hand that feeds them. They may never let you touch them but have no objections to you handling their kittens.

Obi-Wan (M) - our sanctuary mascot!
This 4-eared handsome boy is as sweet and lovable as he is unique. He's been neutered and has all his shots. We already have a Yoda so we named him Obi-Wan. He's socialized now and has become a lap cat.

Boo (M) - Rescued from a vacant lot fending for himself; rehabilitated for injuries to his leg and tail. Now he's the sanctuary's Mr. Personality.
